On Sunday, January 25, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., Palmetto Opera celebrates its 25th anniversary with a full-scale production of the grand opera Carmen at the Koger Center for the Arts. This special performance features an internationally renowned cast and marks a milestone season. Tickets are on sale now through the Koger Center Box Office at www.kogercenterforthearts.com, by phone at 803-251-2222, or in person to avoid additional fees.
Carmen is set in southern Spain and tells the story of a fateful encounter between Don José, a soldier who is seduced by the fiery Romani woman, Carmen. In an attempt to win Carmen's love, Don José deserts his childhood sweetheart and his military duties. Carmen rejects Don José and turns her affections to the glamorous bullfighter Escamillo, resulting in a jealous retaliation and ultimately her demise. Though controversial at the time for its themes of working-class life, social rebellion, and a free-spirited heroine who meets a tragic end, Carmen quickly gained recognition for Bizet’s emotionally rich score and is now considered a cornerstone of the operatic repertoire.
This story has it all - love, jealousy, possession – and with famous arias like "Habenera," "Sequidilla," "Toreador," and Don José's heartfelt "Flower Song," it is one of the world’s most beloved operas.
Carmen will be performed in the original French with English super titles projected above the stage.

Recent highlights include debut performances as Mrs. Nolan in Menotti’s THE MEDIUM and Musetta in LA BOHÈME with Amelia Island Opera. In 2023, she returned to the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre stage, performing as Bet in OLIVER! THE LADY IN THE BALCONY (Mrs. Gibbs) and in Rorem’s OUR TOWN.
Accomplished in Opera and Musical Theatre, Isernia maintains a diverse repertoire spanning both genres. From 2020 to 2023, she served as a Resident Artist with Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre, where she delivered a series of acclaimed performances. Among her most significant achievements there was her role debut as Carmen in Bizet’s CARMEN. An alumna of the Manhattan School of Music, Isernia studied under the esteemed Maitland Peters. While there, she performed leading roles in DIDO & AENEAS (Dido) and L’INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA (Nerone) under the direction of internationally acclaimed soprano Catherine Malfitano. She also appeared in Janáček’s CUNNING LITTLE VIXEN, portraying the Forrester’s Wife. A dedicated interpreter of the works of Gilbert & Sullivan, Isernia has appeared in numerous productions including THE MIKADO (Pitti-Sing) with the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, PATIENCE (Lady Jane), and THE GONDOLIERS (Tessa). She is making her debut with Teatro Lirico D’Europa this season as CARMEN!

Nathan Snyder, Tenor
Don José
Praised for his “rich and nuanced" sound and “riveting” acting, tenor Nathan Snyder has built a reputation of excellence in all genres. His energy and impressive versatility make him an outstanding presence on any stage. Nathan recently made his debut as B.F. Pinkerton in Puccini's MADAMA BUTTERFLY with the New Jersey Ass. of Verismo Opera and Light Opera New Jersey, as well as the Duke of Mantua in RIGOLETTO with Teatro Lirico D’Europa (May 2025). Soon after RIGOLETTO, Nathan traveled to Kansas to reprise the role of Dewey Noyes in STAGGERWING with Opera Kansas, a role Nathan premiered, before heading to Quisisana Resort in Maine for the summer to perform the title roles in both ROMÉO ET JULIETTE by Gounod and ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD by Offenbach. After premiering the role of Dewey Noyes in STAGGERWING with Opera Kansas in 2021, Nathan experienced great success in contemporary repertoire, including Clarence Elkins in BLIND INJUSTICE with Opera Theater of the Rockies, Miles in PROVING UP with Opera Steamboat, as well as covering the role of the Visitor in Phillip Glasses IN THE PENAL COLONY.
Between contemporary works, Nathan has also performed standard roles including Manrico in Verdi’s IL TROVATORE, Rodolfo in Puccini’s LA BOHÈME, Don José in CARMEN and Sam Polk in Carlisle Floyd’s SUSANNAH. On the concert stage he has performed as tenor soloist in CARMINA BURANA, Mozart’s REQUIEM, Bruckner’s TE DEUM, and Stravinsky’s IN MEMORIAM DYLAN THOMAS to name a few. He recently sang the part of the Archangel Uriel in Haydn's CREATION with the Laramie Choral and Mozart’s REQUIEM with the University of Wyoming.
Nathan has also achieved high praise for his work in musical theatre, most recently in Loveland Opera Theatre’s production of BRIGADOON, where Marlow’s Musings said “Nathan Snyder’s vocals in the role of Tommy Albright are Magnificent! His “Almost Like Being in Love,” is worth the price of admission all on its own!!!" Nathan has performed, in concert, the role of Billy Early in NO NO NANNETTE and in Loveland Opera Theatre’s RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN JUBILEE. A Colorado native and University of Northern Colorado alumnus, Nathan competed as a finalist in both the Opera Birmingham Vocal Competition and the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition.
Some of Nathan’s other roles have included King Kasper in AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS, Count Almaviva in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, Belmonte in DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL. Upcoming performances include Duke in Verdi’s RIGOLETTO with Teatro Lirico D’Europa, Light Opera NJ and NJ Ass. of Versimo Opera in February 2026. Of Nathan’s performance as Don José, Jernigan Opera Journal said, “… his wild abandon toward the end was riveting. He also managed the rise to the climactic B-flat in ‘La fleur que tu m’avais jetée’ and had a true crescendo/decrescendo on the note.”
