ABOUT

We are The Palmetto Opera. We aren't just about discussing arias, drinking wine and looking through tiny binoculars. We are performers. We are musicians. We are promoters. We are doers. And we are doing it all for the love of opera.

The Palmetto Opera began in 2001 with a group of motivated enthusiasts and a goal to bring professional opera into South Carolina. We started small, hiring performers to sing arias in various Columbia venues. We hosted competitions that attracted graduate students and young professionals from the Southeast. Our official debut came in 2003, with our performance of "Love, Murder & Revenge," a mixture of scenes from various operas. Then we have our big break in 2007 - sold out performances of The Marriage of Figaro at the University of South Carolina's Drayton Hall.

Our newest venture is to expand the range of ages that experience and enjoy opera. The more people we can introduce to opera, the more it will become a part of the culture in South Carolina. More than anything, we ask that you simply give opera a chance.

As we continue to boost opera's presence in South Carolina, we greatly appreciate any donations or volunteer efforts. The Palmetto Opera is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, incorporated in South Carolina. All donations are fully deductible to the extent allowed by the IRS.

OUR MISSION

The mission of The Palmetto Opera is to present professional opera, educational programs about opera and opportunities for local talent to sing opera to the Midlands and South Carolina that would have a positive economic impact for the state and community.
